Scouting For Food

Our Troop had a rather interesting experience this time around. I'd like
to hear some comparisons, particularly from NCACers.
We'll skip over the difficulty in getting the bags and go straight to:
we asked for 1000 but seem to have gotten far fewer. (Possibly as few as
600, based on a spot-count of the packs.)
Then, when we went back to pick up, we collected a grand total of about
60 bags. Last year we got 250 bags. A HUGE difference!
We later discovered that other groups in the same area were running food/can
drives the weekend of the 7th.
Our Troop Committee would like to know if we are just having an
extraordinarily BAD year or if other Troops experienced anything similar?
(Given the size of the truck to which we delivered the bags, we're
guessing there wasn't much PR and the Council wasn't expecting Great
Things this time around. This is sort of backed up by the fact that none
of the 8 of us heard any PR on radio or TV or saw anything in the paper.)
Anyone??
Thanks!
Cheryl
