Actually, there is a very simple thing that BSA could do, simply charge U.S.
participants the average of what it cost U.S. Scouts to attend the last
three World Jamborees. This would eliminate over 95% of the people from
ever considering it.
No, I am not serious that anything like this should ever be done.
It would be nice if there were another World Jamboree in the U.S., but I too
have my doubts. I'm also sure that it would be very popular with people
from other countries. There are many people all over the world that would
really love to come to the U.S. for something like this. In the meantime I
am glad to see that people like Bruce McCrea are making things like this
happen on a small scale.
We should also not forget that there are many other Jamborees in the world.
This year we sent more Scouts from the Indianhead Council to the 12th
Japanese National Jamboree than we are sending to the World Jamboree in
Chile. It cost them less than $2,000 each, less than 1/2 of what it would
have cost them to go to the World Jamboree.
For next year we are looking at Jamborees in Iceland as well as Holland.
Total cost for both will be less than what it cost for the Japanese
Jamboree.
Think outside the box, there are many things there.
