"Genius Kits" are great for team and leadership development sessions for
Scouts and Scouters of all ages. 30 years ago our Camp Director, John
Hessong (Cary Camp, Harrison Trails Council) used one of these during staff
development/training week. Of all the things that happened that summer long
ago this is the one thing that I most often remember. It took us all by
surprise and was intriguing. We were given a bag of several items and told
to see how many things we could invent using the contents. For an hour we
learned to work together to come up with innovative solutions as a team.
The lesson paid huge dividends all summer. I've chatted with some of the
staff from those years by e-mail and many still are applying the lessons of
team work and innovation in their jobs. Amazing what a little Scouting fun
can lead to. Did anybody say Character Development recently. ;-)
