Bridges and Crossover Customs

Thanks to the many, many Scouters who responded to my request for some
information on Webelos to Scout Crossover customs. It would appear that
the majority of ceremonies involve the transfer of epaulets, not shirts
(really, only one had ever heard of a ceremony involving the changing of a
shirt). If opinions were expressed, most felt the shirt changing should
be avoided. Some of you have some neat customs associated with signing
the bridge, or having the parents cross the bridge after the Scouts are
greeted by the SM or SM's. If a den builds the bridge, often a plaque is
placed on the bridge.
There are various Troop-dependant customs assoicated with when
neckerchiefs, hats, books are given. It would appear that most Packs
don't "send any money" to the Troops; and most Troops don't expect
anything. The Packs may supply the Boy Scout Book and the registration fee
to the crossing over Scouts.
Gifts given by den leaders are most often the career arrow which is
described in several places, but I believe is in the Staging Den and Pack
Ceremonies. Some Pack have established traditional gifts, such as the
career arrow, so anything given may start a precedent for future dens in
the Pack.
Bridges are as simple as warehouse pallets to the more elaborate fold up
styles, but most appear to be some variation of the warehouse pallet with
rope rails. It needs to be built so that it fits in the trunk of a car or
folds to fit your storage area. Some bridges are "half Cub" in color,
"half Boy Scout" - this could be achieved by lashing the respective flags
to the rails. Others are 12 planks long and have the 12 points of the Boy
Scout Law on them.
Thanks for sharing all your ideas and experiences. I believe what we will
put together is a very "traditional" ceremony and bridge, so that a
precedent is set. I'd like to think that while we are somewhat isolated
in the mountains, we still are part of the brotherhood of Scouting.
