1999 Rank Requirements-2nd Class (An Opinion

Fellow Scouts-Lrs,

Repeating myself from the last message (earlier today)
------------------------------------------------------
Thought I would look at one Rank at a time.

What National has for us to look at in advance of 1999 for changes
to this rank also look reasonable. Many of us registered scouters
may apparently get this little flyer mailed to us or it will be =

made available at Council.

The page numbers associated with each requirement aren't listed
so this reviewer can't be sure they did a complete job. I like
to see all the pages listed rather than 1997's style of missing
one page out of a sequence or starting on page 2 of a book topic.
----------------------------------------------------------------

2ndC:Req-1b "Using a compass and a map together" are the new
words instead of "map you've drawn".

OK, You and I knew this already via, at minimum, are fearless
founding Scouts-L father Ohio-Paul Wolf.

2ndC:Req-2c (old 2b i.e. that fun Totin Chip) has a funny last =

=2E...phrase added "describe when they should be used"

This last phrase will be open to many interpretations and some
pure ignoring as being a bit obvious to the casual 11 yr old.

2ndC:Req-2e Adds the understanding of a fire and a cooking stove.

GREAT!! Even if the requirement is for a lightweight backpacking
style stove.

2ndC:Req-2f Puts 2e in practice (i.e. Demo both)

2ndC-Req-2g (old 2d) Adds nutrition understanding, and cooking
=2E...at least one simple meal over a fire by YOURSELF. GREAT!!

2ndC-Req-7 Swimming has been expanded to 7a, 7b, and 7c

2ndC-Req-7b Does a perfect job describing how to do the 50 ft
=2E...and now the scout can use (1) only one stroke or I guess
=2E...as many different types as he or the leader wishes.
2ndC:Req-7c Adds Water Rescue Knowledge in some detail.

Bottom line:
------------
An Improvement, Again CONGRATULATIONS Irving-JoeD, and other =

Scouts-Lrs that input or work directly with National.
(I am buttering you guys up with Honey ((just in case))

YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM

Mr Dave (Hawleyton, NY (Baden-Powell Council=
