Camporee Idea

Hudy, Keith (Keith.Hudy@MSFC.NASA.GOV)

Our district just completed our fall camporee and I wanted to let everyone
know what we did in case you might want to do something like this in your
district. The theme of the camporee was Cooking. Each troop had to provide a
demonstration on different cooking styles: primitive, wilderness survival,
fire, gas & coal. On Saturday, the scouts went from troop to troop to learn
the different styles of cooking. Each troop was also asked to make a chili
or stew for the Saturday night supper. And also provide a desert. We were to
make enough food to feed our own troop. At supper time, all of the troops
got together and had a pot luck supper. We ate food made by the other
troops. We all sat down together and ate. This forced us to get to know the
members from the other troops. We even had judges decide who had the best
stew, chili, desert. We gave out ribbons at the camp fire. The weekend was
also a Cub Fest on Saturday. The boy scouts invited the Webelos to spend
Friday night camping with them. There are about 240 cub scouts registered in
our district and 175 showed up Saturday for the Cub Fest. Sleeping on Friday
night was a little difficult because some of the Webelos were a little
excited. But all in all, it was a very successful weekend. If you plan to do
something like this, DO NOT FORGET A LADY'S LATRINE!!!
