Re: retest at SM conf

The way that I handle SM conferences is to make sure that they are ready
for the BOR. I ask them about the skills they have learned, what they
found tough, easy, enjoyed, hated. I also ask them about their scout
spirit. 2 answeres are generally given when asked "How have you
demonstrated Scout Spirit?" The answers are living the Scout oath and law,
or allways helping others. I also ask about the program and how they like
it, what could be changed, etc. When they get to 1st class, I also ask if
they feel that they are able to teach everything they have learned up to
now. Finally I make them set a goal for acheiving the next rank.
I feel that if my assistants have signed the requirement off, the boy
learned it. I do tell them to make sure the boy is tested at a point a
while after they first learn it. In other words, The night the boy learns
the skill is NOT the night they are tested on it. In the event that I feel
the boy hasn't learned the skills, I would have no problems with re-testing
him on some of them, and withold the SM conference req. until they
demonstrate that they have learned the skill.
