Some may have mixed feelings about a knot that is earned by
contributing money to an endowment with the BSA. Here is an
interesting way that Del-Mi District in Crossroads of America
Council uses the award.
About once a year, someone in the district will quietly announce
that pledges are being sought towards donating $1000 in the
name of some highly respected Scouter in the district. If enough
people vote with their pledges to honor this person, the honored
Scouter receives a surprise presentation of the James E. West award
at our district banquet. It's been a pretty neat system so far.
