Personal Fitness MB

Dale Karweik (karweik.1@OSU.EDU)
Tue, 29 Sep 1998 13:17:26 -0400

The last MB I had to earn for Eagle was Personal Fitness. I earned it 2
week before my 18th birthday as I remember it. It was very hard for me and
the running requirement almost denied me the Eagle Rank. Do I regret the
time and effort it took to meet that one requirement? No.
Was I glad to see the requirement placed back on the required list? Yes.

One of the three aims of Scouting is personal fitness. It is not doing
anyone - especially our Scouts - a service to forget that physical, mental
and moral fitness are absolutely necessary for an individual to Be
Prepared. I believe that I like many other adults have been less than
wonderful examples of personal fitness. After reading the postings about
all the young men who might not be able to meet the requirements, I have
been shamed enough that I am planning to do something locally - starting
with myself.
