Well, I don't know where some of these numbers come from but with the
exception of Registration, Boy's Life, and THE scout handbook, I think
randy's been using prices out of the BSA catalog. There are many less
expensive ways to go. Troop Dues are of course up to the unit and ours
are $30.00. Troop dues include Scarf, Hat, Troop numeral, Quality Unit
patch and anniversy strip. Boys have uniformed for less than $45. The
troop maintains a uniform bank and an equipment bank for new scouts ( a
little faded but still good.). Basic Camping (meaning Backpacking here)
for around $200. shop the sales, Check the rental places for their
clearances, outgrown gear from older scouts. Our troop provides tents,
and patrol gear. Special clothing only for Snow trips. My son's cost a
bit more but how many have a scout that runs 6'5", 300 lbs and can
backpack 125 lbs consistantly or portage 235 lbs? Summer camp this year
was $185 so that one can be all over the place. Activity fees and food
are subject to the type of program your boys select but remember not all
the boys go on all the outings.Last year Activity fees and food for my
son ran $2700.00 but how many boys go to National Jamboree, summer Camp
and a long term backpack in the high Sierras in one summer? And what
about the Kayak? Every boy in my troop get the opportumity to build his
own kayak and thats another $60-70.
Basically Randy, I guess what I am saying is the operand term in your
opening phase was LITTLE.
