After the SDE pinned on that beautiful red and white ribbon, our Scoutmaster
called for all uniformed Scouts and Leaders to rise. All of us then saluted
that young man and held it for a five count before returning to our seats.

A salute to the flag is an honor to the flag. A salute to young Spencer
Williams of Troop 156, Glenview, Illinois, is an honor to him.

I guess that is why we salute a person.>>

In the military, the custom is that anyone who has been awarded the Medal of
Honor, regardless of the person's rank, is awarded a salute by all members of
the service, whatever their rank.

I will gladly and with respect salute Spencer Williams, or any member of our
movement who has received the Honor Medal or the Heroism Award.

Best wishes,

Neil Lupton
