What is the purpose of recognition? Is it not to help someone feel a
sense of accomplishment and self-worth and encouraging similar
behavior? It also encourages others to think about what they might be
accomplishing. The Eagle Board of Review is certainly interested in
activities outside of Scouting as are boards that review adults for Dist
Award of Merit and Silver Beaver etc.

Where we draw the line has to do with the energy of the leaders in
knowing about the accomplishments of others. If the amount of energy
you have to devote to knowing what your kids are up to is limited to
Scouting, how do you bring the Scouting values into the mainstream of
that youth's life decisions?
