Re: Criteria for Leadership Time

<Don said>So just WHO and HOW do the Junior leaders get evaluated?</Don>

Who evaluates junior leaders? The SM, SA's, and the junior leaders
themselves. Evaluation is a great way for leaders to figure out where
they're doing a good job, and where they need to concentrate their efforts.

<Don>Should that be part of the PLC meeting?</Don>

PLC meetings are a good place to start, but any time is a good time.

<Don>Kind of a "OK - so how do YOU guys think you are doing?" Should the SPL
evaluate the ASPL and PL's?</Don>

Leadership evaluation covers two main ideas: "Getting the Job Done" and
"Keeping the Group Together".

Getting the Job Done:
Was the job done? Was it done right? Was it done on time? Did everyone get
involved? Did everyone have fun? Do they want more?

Keeping the Group Together?
Are we getting the job done? Are we doing it right? Are we on schedule? Is
everybody involved? Are we working well and satisfied with what we're doing?
Do we want to continue?

<Don>Could we have some kinda "reflection" for a self evaluation?
I like the idea to get the PLC more envolved in the evaluation of
leadership. I can really help to teach them to be better, better as a
leader, and better as a "middle" manager (PL?)</Don>

Reflection and evaluation can help youth leaders gain confidence in
themselves as leaders, learn where their weaknesses and strengths are, and
to delegate tasks to those who are better at them. They can also be very
valuable to the planning process through reflecting on and evaluating past
activities and setting goals to do better in the future. Reflection and
evaluation can also help adult leaders determine where they need to focus
their junior leader training efforts.
