But Steve, female Explorers *may serve* as Den Aides. This NON-
REGISTERED position still exists in some local Councils, and the
role of the Den Aide is similiar to that of the Den Chief.
Den Aides don't wear a special patch nor do they get to wear the
Den Chief's cord; but there is a special Den Aide certificate which
can be presented to the Den Aide at the end of the program year.
If your Council does use the Den Aide program (check with them to
be sure; some don't allow it for risk management/youth protection
reasons...good reasons..), make sure that the Den Aide attends the
BSA's Youth Protection program as outlined for other volunteers in
your local Council.
Explorers -- male and female -- are good helpers from Cub Scouting.
As we move from Exploring to Venturing, we need to remember that
they are a part of the "Scouting family" and we need to rely on
them. One of the strongest criticisms of the old Exploring program
was that they "were pulling away from the Boy Scouting program" and
that "they didn't want to be bothered with participating in Boy
Scouting-related programming and program emphasis". Let's not do
this with Venturing, okay gang??
