While there may be only *one* field uniform of the BSA and *one*
activity uniform of the BSA, there *are* several ways that those
uniforms (and other "uniforms", for instance, camp "uniforms") may
be worn, which is what Kevin and others are trying to respond to.
Officially, the BSA states in the current Scoutmasters' Handbook
that there's no such thing as a "Class A" or "B" uniform.
Informally, many Councils, their professionals and volunteers know
better. For many of them know that there's a difference between
wearing your "best uniform with everything" (Class A) and the "camp
uniform" (Class D) during summer camp. We still also have the
activity uniform, which is worn by a lot of Scouts and Scouters
while travelling (Class C). There's also the informal version that
we all wear to Roundtables, meetings and most other non-formal
ceremonies (Class B).
I'll post in a separate posting the stuff from the Uniform and
Insignia site which describes those options in detail.
Yes, there's only ONE uniform for Boy Scouts and Scouters. No,
there is a distinction between what is worn formally or informally.
Whether we call them "Class A" or "Formal Scouting attire", that's
up to the individual, Council or unit.
