First, to the individual(s) who have said this does not have a place
on
the list, those who associate this with the cost of scouting have
voiced
what, even though I may not agree with it, is a valid concern.

Now, as to the comment above, as well as others who apparently
feel that the salary is too high, I have a question. What is too high?
$250K? $150K? $80K? After deciding on an appropriate level, why?

It doesn't always seem fair, but there are large gaps in salaries
grades of every company. Usually, they are associated with
responsibilities, trust and grief.

At my company, you could say there is a substantial difference
between my salary and of those working for me. By the same
token, those above me make even more drastic jumps per grade
then those below me.

As you go up the ladder, there are greater expectations placed
upon you. You start to become not only responsible for your
actions, but those in your charge. Mr. Ratcliff also is responsible
for making sure our monies are spent appropriately. When BSA
has negative press, it is he who has to answer to the reporters and
the people involved in scouts.

One last point. Private/Commercial industry is more then willing to
pay these salaries. If we want to maintain good, solid
management, we need to be willing to pay for it. Let's face it, this is
how the proffesionals make their living, they're just among the
fortunate
who get to make it contributing to a cause they believe in.
