Roundup results

Scouts-l listers,

If this question has been asked in the past 2-3 weeks, I apologize for
repeating it; due to problems with my provider, I haven't had much luck
getting some of the messages during this time.

Now that Roundup has come and gone (at least the one at the beginning of

the school year), is there anyone who would like to post how they did?
Actual numbers are not necessary, just a general indicator of whether
you considered your Cub Roundup a success, "could have been better",
"great", etc. Also, for any response given, could you provide any ideas

as to the causal factors of your Roundup performance?

There are two reasons I'm asking this:
1. The information will be used to make suggestions to our local
Council for ways to improve their management for Roundup next year.

2. The information (hopefully) will be used to promote more involvement

and cooperation from the local schools for Roundup in the future.

Our Pack had a great Roundup (finally!). Last year we conducted two
roundups and got one Tiger
and one Webelos. This year our one Roundup produced five Tigers, two
Wolves, one Bear,
six first-year Webelos, and two 2nd-year Webelos. Since we had only 12
Scouts before Roundup, we consider this year's effort a success.

We did things differently this year. We started calling the schools
where we were going to distribute the flyers early and "found" reasons
to continue calling them about twice a week to discuss some aspect of
the event which had not been discussed as of yet. The purpose was to
get the event to register in the memory of the personnel responsible for
distributing the flyers on the day scheduled.

Last year, they "forgot" to send the flyers out on time and we found out
later that many parents opened their son's backpacks the morning after
the Roundup just in time to see the notice about the
event the scheduled the night before. This year, the flyers went out on
time. Also, we got permission to conduct a "walk-through" at the 4-5
grade school (where we desperately needed Webelos) and talk to the boys
directly and distribute the flyers ourselves.

I also sent letters out to all the principals of the schools, the
Superintendent of the school district, and our District Executive
thanking them for their help. Hopefully, this will set the stage for
more cooperation next year. The principal of the elementary school (1-3
grade) refused our request for a walk-through this year; maybe next year
we can use the numbers to demonstrate the effectiveness of this method.

While this approach seems to have worked, we are still looking for
anything we can use to improve our (and all Packs in our Council)
chances of getting the notices to the parents in a manner which is more
productive.
