After-action reports

At summer camps, training courses, etc up to anf including Jambo we sub mit
after-action reports. camps often expect it in a certain layout. nelc and
jambo they were hasppy to get outside opinions submitted to the people in
charge, who included them as needed in their reports.
At the unit, and all the way up to the council level, when working with youth,
I've found it better and more interesting to hold a straight reflection as
trained in jltc - sort of a brainstorming evaluation, to try to describe it to
those who never have - or a philmont "thorns and roses" where everyone
goesaroiund and says both something that went good and something that went bad
- than a written evaluation. although a smart troop would assign the scribe to
record what the PLC said at these sessions and keep a record, I suppose, but
if enough kids didn't like an activity they remembered it in detail next
planning conference, believe me.
