Use public transportation. Most routes busses and trains in Switzerland
leave every hour on exactly the same minute. Busses and trains use
a combined ticket system. If you are with a scout group it might be a
lot cheaper to buy a group ticket.

Both Adelboden and Kandersteg have millions of good local hikes, but
I would not recommend hiking for the purpose of traveling. Once in
Switzerland I'd recommend to plan a good hike only one way and go
back by public transportation.

Bike rentals are available at every train station. It is worth calling a day
in advance to make them hold a bike or bring it there for you.

Car rentals in Switzerland feel slightly expensive to me.
