USSSP Advancement Pages Updated

Please forgive the massive crosspost if you see this more than once.

=======================
BOY SCOUT Rank changes:
=======================

As many of you know, there will be numerous advancement changes
effective in early 1999, including major changes to most of the ranks,
Eagle Required Merit Badge changes.

I have been told that, now that the "All Hands" meeting of Scout
Professionals is over, the changes that were discussed at Philmont this
past summer can now be made public to any and all Scouts and Scouters.
Formal announcements will be in the next issues of Boy's Life and
Scouting.

I have updated many of the US Scouting Service Project Advancement web
pages with the revised requirements (and left the existing pages active)
and prepared a summary showing the changes to all ranks on one page at:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/rankchanges99.html

The Advancement pages can be reached thru:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/index.html

The Advancement Table of Contents shows a structured list of all the
Advancement pages. It is at:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/contents.html

============
Merit Badges
============

The Bugling Merit Badge page:
http://www.usscouts.org/mb/mb032.html
now has links to pages showing sheet music, and links to MIDI files of
the various bugle calls.

I haven't seen the actual changes being made to any of the Merit Badges,
but know that many will be changing, including major changes to Swimming
and Cooking MB's. I'll get the changes posted as soon as they become
known.

=================
CUB SCOUT Changes
=================

I have also posted the revised Cub Scout requirements from the Wolf and
Bear Cub Scout Books at:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/wolf.html
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/wolfarrow.html
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/bear.html
and http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/beararrow.html

Pages showing what requirements were actually changed in both books are
at:
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/wolfchange98.html
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/wolfarrowchng98.html
http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/bearchange98.html
and http://www.usscouts.org/advance/cubscout/beararrowchng98.html

I'll do the same for Webelos wwhen that new book is issued.

==========
Venturing:
==========

I have also posted some fact sheets about the new Venturing and
Exploring programs, and have linked to the Sea Scouting pages maintained
by seascout.org. I'll post more details as they become available.

One thing I have been told is that Explorers (in Learning for Life) will
have until 12/31/1999 to earn Eagle without joining a Boy Scout Troop,
Varsity Scout Team, Venturing Crew, or Sea Scout Ship. They will be
permitted to continue using the current requirements until then.
