Re: Cub Rank Advancement

The time this happened in our pack the boy started on his Bobcat in
September, earned it in November, and had his Wolf and 1 arrow point in
December. People in my pack, including me were going ballistic. I
talked to the mother and she said her son would come home from school
everyday, grab that book and say can we do this today? They were a
family that did stuff together, that's all.
I will admit that I personally found one or two things questionable but
overall they did a fine job on the advancements. This boy continued to
get arrow points until we sent his mom to training, then for some reason
it slowed down a bunch. I think then she understood the intent better.
This is a family program and the parents are allowed to sign off on what
their son has accomplished. There really isn't much you can do about it.
Unfortunately, there are some PARENTS who only want to show off how many
arrow points their son can get and how fast he has gotten them.
I also have a problem with parents or leaders for that matter
orchestrating advancement to coincide with Blue and Gold. We have that
in our pack too. Each boy should work at his own pace. It is not up to
the committee or another parent to decide how fast or slow a boy will
advance. Someone in my pack once told me that parents in my pack didn't
understand why my son didn't get more arrow points than he did (1 Wolf
and 2 Bear.) I simply informed them that FUN was first and foremost in
my den and rank was second. I haven't heard another word about it.
Like I've said there isn't much you can do about it. You can't test the
kid. Do you want to call them liars?
Hope this helps.
