I would adhere to the 20% rule. Carry only that amount of your body weight,
for the younger scouts. That could be 20 lbs or a little more. For an adult
to carry 40-45 lbs is an experienced backpacker, not a kid. Believe me, those
packs get mighty heavy after a few days.
