I have been to two WB classes. In both cases, the leadership set the
uniform standards. In the Scout class have no idea what might have
happened if the PLC had wanted to change the standards. In the both
classes, the standard was simply set.
I think that in both cases there was some flexibility. I showed up
for CS-WB with the blue and gold baseball cap. The ladies in our den
to a person hate the thing. We were told that den inspections
required consistency so we went to no hats. There were no problems
with that. The BS-WB class had course tee shirts included in the
registration and we wore them a lot as the average day high for the
class period was over 90F. '94 for was a really hot Summer for the
Chicago area.
I have never staffed a class ( I should love to ) but as I understand
it, part of what is supposed to happen is that the Scouters understand
what their charges (adult trainees in the CS case, Scouts in the
other) experience. So, at some point, does the uniforming experience
seem arbitrary to them? I have been too long in the program to recall
(Arrow of Light in 1957) but I think perhaps it does.
