About my JOTI concept
(EC92@AOL.COM)
Tue, 25 Aug 1998 12:40:08 -0400
This last weekend we passed 20 units (from 3 countries plus the USA, a twist I
hadn't planned on) interested in the JOTI concept I proposed to try to make it
palatable to BSA.
I said that was when I'd get serious and I did, the Post President has most of
the html done, the Post meets tonight to hash out the last parts, and I found
Doug Gentry (2600 miles from home and on vacation) and he agreed to also
include a short-term mailing list that all could use for that weekend's event.
It would open a week or so before the event so people could join and stay
open until just after the weekend ends. We hope to find some way to monitor
that list the entire time tat JOTI runs so that, should something suspicious
start to occur, we could break in and help.
And I'm working on getting permission to use parts of the Christian Science
Monitor article that was reprinted in a bunch of other papers this week on
internet "security" to set up basic guidelines for anyone using the "approval"
concept to follow.
JOTI and JOTA are on October 17th and 18th and runs from 0000hours your local
time on the 17th to 2400 hours your local time on the 18th. So we could put
through a lot of e-mail on a monitored site in a few days. It would give your
Scouts a chance to share with others and you wouldn't necessarily have to sit
all day like IRC or ICQ, but you could still trade stories, etc.. We're
obviously trying to do this on as many options as possible.
The youth run this thing, though, so I can't report details until Wednesday
morning. Hopefully you'll get a URL with the sign-up information included.
I'd mentioned a patch. I went no further with it yet. As I said, the youth
determine things here. We'll see what they want to commit to.
