I'll abstain from the practices of my well-meaning but misguided
defenders. Despite my personal religious convictions, Scouting does not
exist to prosthyltize. As I've stated before, good, solid
Judeo-Christian ethics can be taught in a generic, non-sectarian
fashion. Now, to the unpleasant matter at hand:
> And how exactly do you define a duty to god Bob?
The same way the Scout Handbook does: Faithful in religious duties with
respect for those whose practices differ from mine. Theology and
Comparative Religion are hobbies of mine. I belong to a church of
Christ and I've visited many other Christian churches from many
denominations. I've also studied the tenets of several major
non-Christian religions, including Islam, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism
and others and cannot remember any of them supporting your point of
view.
>>Duty to Country (Others) -- By choosing a profession whereby she
>>deliberately incites lust in a bunch of men who belong home with their
>>wives.
>Or girlfreinds or boyfreinds,
And this matters how?
>Tell us you have never been to a strip show Bob, or never look at a
girly
>magazine.
I have, but then I grew up. We all sin. The significant factor is
realization and repentance of the sin. Those in real danger are the
ones who embrace it and continue it as a lifestyle.
>What sort of Duty to the country is staying at home with your wife any
way?
>Oh yeah, it is preserving the status quo of what conservatives define
as
>'normal'
I prefer to look at it as preserving a wholesome environment in which to
raise wholesome children. What has the alternative wrought? Broken
homes, selfish satisfaction of personal "needs" at others' expense,
out-of-wedlock pregnancy, venereal disease, confused and directionless
children with no grounding in values, shall I go on? This could
continue for quite some time!
>>Duty to Self -- Where is her self respect? I once spoke to a pretty
>>young woman who was offered $1,000.00 a week to do this. She turned
>>them down.
>Bob, you should have offered her $2000
?? and for what, exactly?
>>Has this woman sold her self-respect for a fat paycheck?
>>Don't tell me she needs this job because she can't find another! CNN
>>and the Akron Beacon Journal tell me weekly that the labor market is
>>wide open! No, she probably can't get another job for that kind of
>>money, but what is her pride and moral integrity worth?
>What about fun and feeling great about your sexuality
What about leaving the participation with God in the creation of life to
a solid, loving marriage, where it belongs?
>>Before I get accused of self-righteous demagoguery, let me say that I
>>know what the Bible tells about judging others. But it also says that
>>we must lovingly admonish the sinner (i.e. point out their fault). It
>>elsewhere says that it would be better if a man were tossed into the
sea
>>with a millstone around his neck than to lead a child astray! We have
>>to look at the big picture: what kind of person do we want as a role
>>model for our Cubs?
>Some one who knows were they are at!
Displaying herself like a choice cut of meat in a shop.
>>"What does your Cubmaster do for a living, Timmy?"
>>"She gets naked for a bar full of drunks!"
>>I have no son. But if I did, I would not want this woman as his
>>Cubmaster
>Does it really matter what leaders do for a living?
Using your logic, we can then have prostitutes, porno stars, drug
dealers, mob enforcers, etc. as Scout leaders. Get off the fact that
these examples are illegal and stripping is legal. It's the moral
propriety of these occupations I'm talking about.
>I have spent most of my leader career unemployed!
I'm sorry.
>>As I said a couple of months ago: In order for the program to work,
the
>>person modeling the character should have some.
>When are you going to put this into practice?
This was uncalled for. I am blunt, it is true. I relish the freedom of
speech our country guarantees and the marvelous vehicle modern
technology provides to exercise it. But even at my most invective, as
my reply to Mr. Hewitt the last week or so, or my essays on the Girl
Scouts, I have attacked only ideas. I have never personally insulted my
opponents, as you have done. I'll ask you in the future to save such
personal attacks for messages offline. Or better yet, don't make them
at all!
