Intro

Dear List Members,

It is already quite some time ago (about 2 months) that I subscribed to the
list and I just realized that I had not yet introduced myself. I have been
involved with scouting now for about 5 years mainly as a committee member
with troop 731 in Chiangmai, Thailand (one of the three BSA troops in
Thailand - the other troops are in Bangkok and the Eastern Seaboard). I have
never been a scout myself and only became involved as my son was attracted
to scouting (he is now a Life scout and acts as Troop Guide). Troop 731 is a
small troop with a high turnover (many of our boys are from various
countries - at present from USA, UK, Canada, Israel, India, Italy,
Netherlands, Sweden, Taiwan and Korea - stay only for a year or two as their
parents are often living here on a non-permanent basis) in a district which
was just re-surrected in Bangkok some 500 miles from Chiangmai and is part
of the Far East Council based in Japan (Tokyo/Okinawa).

Most of the leaders involved with our troop double up as SM, ASM, CM, MB
councilor. Being located quite far away from the District and the Council,
training opportunities and options for discussions with other scouters are
few and far between. Being a member of the Scouts-L gives me an opportunity
to keep up to date with what is going on outside our own small scouting
world.
