I have to disagree with your last statement, I believe
there would have been a lot of people to debate the
stained dress, it is just papers probley didn't cover
the story like they do today.

As far as killing chickens I my self have never done
it but I can see the usefulness in it. Some day you may
have to kill an animal for survival and you will have
to know how to clean and cook it, so I think this is
just teaching another skill that may be usefull.

If you don't think it is nessary then why do we teach
and make the kids practice starting fires, I can't
think of a reason you would need to start a bonfire in
middle of the city, it's due to the fact they may one
day be out in the wilderness and need this skill to
survive.

Just my take on the issue, which could be missing the
point.
