The Official announcement is scheduled to be published by BSA in the
Sept. 1998 issues of Boy's Life and Scouting.
Mike's list was in error. There was no change to Cit. in the World -
still required.
Check out http://www.usscouts.org/advance/boyscout/bsrank7.html
for the latest, AS I KNOW IT, on the changes. It states, in part:
NOTE: BSA has announced that some major changes to the Scout
Advancement program will take effect in 1999. All of the details have
NOT been released yet, but the following change to the requirements for
EAGLE SCOUT has been widely discussed and is expected to be in the 1999
Requirements Book:
In Requirement 3:
(f) - Replace Safety
with Personal Fitness
(j) - Replace Personal Fitness or Swimming or Sports
with Swimming or Hiking or Cycling
Boys who become Life Scouts before October 1, 1998, will have until
April 1, 1999 to complete the requirements below (current requirements).
After January 1, 1999 these Scouts may use either the OLD or NEW
requirements until April 1, 1999.
Boys who are NOT Life Scouts by October 1, 1998, must use the NEW
Requirements.
After April 1, 1999, ALL Scouts must use the NEW Requirements.
Safety and Sports MB's will become OPTIONAL MB's (Green Borders), while
Hiking and Cycling will be added to the Required list (Silver Borders).
Remember: The information above is NOT Official. Check with your local
Boy Scout Council for details.
