Hi CA-JackY,

I have been on both sides of this question and =

have read and written about it on Scouts-L.

It isn't an easy situation to deal with
and many troops have solved it or let this
type situation smolder or resolve itself in =

their own unique way including several following
your own current suggestion.

The Approach I eventually decided upon and
still like the most due to its encouraging =

into scouting new parents/guardians in a non
threatening way is a One Page Flyer titled
something like:

"When With or On Outings with Scouts"

After listing a positive sentence about the Scout
Law some standard "No-nos" like smoking, brewskies,
off color humor, and questionable language are listed
as examples of normal things that are taboo in a
scouting environment.

I close with how adults should work together in
a general way to support and learn scouting.

I.E. =

Adult Questioning a Scout Leader's MOUTH
When the adult considers (s)he is off base
How to Do it and How to feel Good about it

Scout Leader or Scout Correcting an Adult
when the Adult is doing something normally
OK at Home or in Society yet Off compared =

to scouting methods or ideals.

(The strategy you see is to give power and) =

(to take power to make both sides at ease)

So if you agree write up a one page flyer to be =

handed to each adult who goes camping or on =

outings with you. Pass it through your DE or DC
so they add some of their fine ideas and then =

pass it at your Troop Committee for approval.

The hardest part of this approach is continued
vigilance by each outing's leader in handing =

out the flyer and then Doing It.

YiS, IMHO, and may we each attempt to live the SO,SL,SS,SM
