Who told you this?? Then "why for we have knives with the Cub Scout
thingy on 'em?" *hehehehee*
(I'm laughing but I'm being serious here too....if the BSA has a
policy against Cubs using or carrying knives at camp, then why is
our Supply Division STILL carrying pocketknives in the recent
Division catalog??)
It sounds like you've come up on a COUNCIL policy and not a BSA
policy, Linda. There are SOME Councils that do NOT want the risks
associated with Cub Scouts using/carrying pocketknives and don't
allow them.
>How do they fulfill there requirements in the book Achievement 19

>pocketknife, make a carving or to earn the whittling chip?
During Day Camps, supervised work on that Achievement is done as a
group so that the Cub Scout gets experience working with a
pocketknife but the control of the knives come back to the adults
working that "site".
During Den Meetings, one or maybe two knives are given out and the
boys take turns using the pocket knife, sharpening it and doing all
of the things neccessary to earn the Whittling Chip card.
I haven't seen a new Bear Book (I'll get a new Wolf and Bear book
toward the end of this month!), so I don't know if the Achievement
is still in the book; but I don't see any reason why it would be
removed.
