Venture Crews vs. Ventuer Patrols

(EC92@AOL.COM)

>new Venturing (not VENTURE, but VENTURING...there's a DIFFERENCE!)
>
Sorry, no, the difference is as follows:

Venture Patrols working under a Venture Patrol Leader with an ASM are Boy
Scouts who do "High Adventure" activities. All are male. They no longer can
invite female friends as "guests".

Venture Crews working under a President and with an adult Advisor do Venturing
as Venturers and earn the new awards that will be outlined in the Ranger
Handbook which are going to produce a new level of outdoorsmen among older
youth. They can be all-male, all-female, or co-ed.

The "-ing" has little to do with it. Despite what Mike said.

The new Venture strips are ready but are not distributed, and don't bother
calling supply since the people who take the orders fully expect the strips
will be in your council Scout Shop before they even find out what we're
talking about. I have see them on members of what was the National Exploring
Committee - they were each given one strip last I heard.

The new Venture Uniforms had a few minor glitches - like a supplier not used
to making clothing in sizes that fit 14-year-old females - however you can
purchase the prototype if you absolutely, positively have to be on the cutting
edge of this stuff:

>The gray cargo shorts for Venturing are not yet available from BSA Supply.
>I have been informed that they should be available as soon as negotiations
are
>completed with the vendor, however no specific time frame is known as to
>when that will be, but probably at least by year's end (possibly even sooner,
>hopefully).

>In the meantime, those who wish to obtain the "prototype" gray cargo shorts
>offered by LL Bean which should be quite similar to the BSA version, can
>order them from:

>The model is "Trailblazer" (trablz) Cargo Shorts
> # wta20459 (women)
> # mta20458 (men)
>
>Cost is $29.50
>
>If you tell them that you are with BSA/Venturing they will give you a 20%
>discount on this price.

However, we have been told we don't need to use either the current BSA shorts
or the new shorts for our uniforms, if a Venture Crew finds something in a
material that fits their activities they can use those shorts SO LONG AS THE
ENTIRE UNIT MATCHES.

And it just came up and no one had asked previously that I know of, but no, we
don't know if there will be long pants, too. Well, I don't.

VE's (Venturing Execs - what else we gonna call 'em? USE's?) will get an order
form when they're in Nashville on the 23rd for what item are available, so if
you're in that program make sure they turn it in so you have the start of
supplies needed. And while they are there a video with the first 3 of the 5
being made for Venture should arrive at each council office, hold them to it,
don't let it disappear from the face of the earth.
