Killing chickens and public norms

I loved the chicken story. I do agree, though, that this wouldn't work
today, for variety of reasons.

Without getting into the reasons of "why" and "what for" and such, I don't
think any of us would disagree that public norms have changd over the years,
of what is acceptable and unacceptable. Judging the past, like condemning
the killing of chickens, doesn't serve any purpose. Would it "fly" now? No
way. But that doesn't mean it was bad then, just not proper now. Are these
changes bad? Not necessarily. But who among us would have expected a
public debate over a "semen-stained dress" thirty years ago? Times
change...
