Interesting, since WOSM does sanction it and even has a whole series of
pages on it. They count it as a "semi-separate" event from JOTA --
recognizing that it is a bit different but recommending that it stay
connected.

Somehow I fail to see how there are any more privacy issues with the
JOTI than there are with JOTA. In fact, since JOTA conversations have
to take place under the auspices of a licensed ham, and since anyone
with web access can look up the address of any FCC-licensed ham quite
easily (and many scanners can listen in on the radio conversations), I
would say that JOTA probably is riskier. I just hope the folks from
National don't decide to tank that as well.

Yes, there are certain guidelines which need to be followed in order to
increase the chances of maintaining some semblance of security/privacy
in any online activity. The JOTI is not an exception to this -- in
fact, the page from the WOSM on JOTI specifically say not to give your
address or phone number out on the internet. The truth is that
participating in JOTI is probably much safer than walking the dog or
most any other activity the boys are likely to engage in. Since most
already use the internet on a regular basis, this will actually be a
more structured, safer way of doing so.

I hope the BSA will reconsider its stance.

Jon
