flint & steel fires

at summer camp, the boys couldn't find matches, but could find some
magnesium? fire sparkers?. they had to work at it, but did get a fire
going. in fact, several boys did fires this way over the course of our time
at camp. going to change their name to the "pyros?"
would appreciate recommendations any of you have for flint &
steel/magnesium? fire starters.
