Auntie Beans,
Another vote for number #2....your a saint for allowing it to go on for
sooooo long.
My son also has ADHHHHHHD(emphasis on the H part) although he is just
starting his first years of Webelos. Not accepting responsibilties for ones
actions is a BIGGIE with ADHDers(based on literature I've read, speaking
with other ADHD parents and my own experiences with my son).
The way we handle things with my son in scouting and other outside
activities is
we allow him to be himself BUT we make it clear to his leaders that if he
pushes the limits, puts others or himself in danger with his actions or the
leader just doesn't want to deal with the complications that come with
Will(my son) -- we are to be notified ASAP and either my husband or myself
attend the function or he is removed from the situation. So far nobody has
said they don't want to deal with him and we haven't had to go and get him
from an activity yet but one of us usually trys to attend the function or
meeting(and help with another group other than my sons) or atleast be
nearby. If this boy continuously is out of control(not only at this one
campout), could one of the parents be asked to attend so that they could
pull in the reins if and when he acts up. Also, if we know that the
activity involves alot of waiting around(requiring patience, something Will
is no good at) or involves paying attention to follow instructions(another
thing he is no good at), we will medicate him and that seems to work OK(for
now atleast)...is the boy medicated at all during scout activities??
Its just my two cents but I thought maybe the view of a ADHD parent would
help.
