Re: I lost my temper....mea culpa (long)

we had a similar child at camp with our Troop last year........first,
know that this was a week of almost *monsoon* type rains, and even though
it is Seattle area weather, it was beyond anyhthing we've seen in summer
time EVER!...........and to be camping was horrible!!!!.......this boy
wanted to go so bad that he kept running off into the woods saying he
wanted to die, would lie down in place hard to see , and wait to be
found..............this kept the Troop busy looking for him for portions
of almost every day..................one day late in the week, when he
had been found once again, he called the SM a *name*.....the SM reacted
by slapping him...........the camp personnel got involved, the parents
were called, mom supported the SM, the issue was satisfactorily
resolved................it has not been an issue...........\

I think what was important here is that the parent who understands theior
child did not feel that the SM acted inappropriately given the
situation................and I think slapping a child is much harsher
than grabbing shoulders and directing a child towards an
activity...........so NO.....I don't think you should think about
resigning............I tyhink maybe you should ease up on yourself and
realize you handlesd a difficlult child for week with only l;oosing your
temper once...........and that's doing a darn good job!
Bev
