Marie,
I was using Troopmaster but I have since changed to WinScout. It is without
the best troop management software I have seen. The reports are
professional looking and fully customizable. The developers of WinScout are
themselves scoutmasters and know what we are looking for. I highly
recommend this package to anyone. With a 90-day money back guarantee, you
can't lose (You won't be sending it back.)
Some of the features I LOVE are:
1. I only have to add the addresses and phone numbers of a boy (read that
family) one time. When you input the parents information, and they become a
"leader" all you do is click on they and assign them a position--wa-la, a
leader.
2. Merit badges couldn't be easier. The ability to track partials and
exactly what each boys need to complete any given MB is invaluable. I can
now print out a packet with all completed, as well as incomplete, rank
requirements and merit badges for each boy to review.
3. Activities are wonderful. I can give short-term camping, long-term
camping (probably will never have both at the same time), miles hiked, and
service hours all on the same activity. It also has the capability to
change individual amounts for each thing for any or all boys. Parents can
be given credit for participating (car pool drivers) without having to give
them credit for overnights, service projects, or miles hiked.
These are just a few of the capabilities. The advantages of this software
are too numerous to mention. Their web site
http://www.tpsoftwareinc.com/WinScout.htm has more information as well as a
fully functional demo copy that you can download and use for 30 days. Of
course this demo copy is limited to 10 scouts, 25 adults (parents/leaders),
and 10 troop activities. Once you try it you will be hooked.
Please put in your literature to reference Troop 813, Indian Waters Council
for anyone that purchases a copy. BTW, it can be purchased on-line.
YIS,
Jo Ernst
