Robert you asked at what age a scout can climb.
I believe that in order to climb and rappel, the scouts must be at least 10 1/2
years old. This information comes from discussions with the C.O.P.E. director
at this years summer camp. A registered _Boy Scout_ can participate in the
"low elements" of a C.O.P.E. course, of which the climbing wall and rappelling
tower are a part of. A Scout must be at least 13 to participate in the "high elements"
of the course.
I may be wrong on the ages (and I am sure to be corrected if I am ;-> ) but I believe
this to be correct.
As a side note, there are no age restrictions in the Climbing MB book for completing the
merit badge. However, when I spoke with the owner of the local indoor climbing gym,
he told me the rules he follows, state that in order to belay a climber, the belayer must
be at least 14. He did state that he would allow a younger Scout to belay, with close
supervision, and possibly have a backup adult on belay.
More than you probably wanted to know, but I hope this helps.
