I just returned from the first session of *Meet The Man* at NOAC. This one
consisted
of a panel of 6 National Professional Scouters.

The first question fielded was given to John Dalyrumple, and was about
changes in
advancement. He started his answer by asking for all Life Scouts in the
room to raise
their hands. He told them they had 7 months, and to get in high gear.

He said that the new advancement requirements go into affect Jan 1, 1999
and that there
would be a Grandfather for the old requirements until April 1, 1999.

He said that there were to be minor changes to the Tenderfoot requirements,
major changes
to Second Class. He then went into the merit badge changes for Eagle. I
didn't take notes,
but I think the quotes from Dick above are fairly accurate.

I know that my son, who will turn 18 next July and has been sitting back
for the last 2
years coasting, will have to get to work to finish Personal Management,
Family Live and
a project, or else he'll have add Personal Fitness to his list of needs.

YiS,
Larry Jones
