Re: Troop Committee Desc-Scout Retention

Let me emphasise, I believe that all of the position we utilize to run our
troops are important. However, perhaps the most important may be overlooked.
The need to preserve the Membership is based upon having a quality program.
If you don't have a quality program which provides interest to the tenderfoot
scout through the Eagle with palms, (11 - 18 years)then you won't keep them.

But in my descriptions are some important positions and job descriptions.
they are:


Scout Retention
The Scout Retention Chairman is responsible to monitor those scouts who are
active members in good standing. He will coordinate with patrol advisors on a
monthly basis to make personal contact with those scouts who are not active
participating members in good standing, in order to insure the retention of
all scouts.

Patrol Advisor is the first contact point between parents of scouts and the
patrol. The Patrol Advisor will be able to provide basic information
regarding the upcoming program event. The Patrol Advisors are responsible for
the inter workings of the patrol. To support and advise as to Patrol Method.
To supervise the campout and event coordination and to provide information
about the patrol to the camping coordinator. To review periodically with each
scout his progress, and coordinate advancement with Advancement/board of
Review coordinator. The Patrol Advisor will serve as liaison between patrol
and all other committees and event coordinators. The Patrol Advisor will work
with Scout Retention Advisor to keep in contact with any scout who is not
regularly participating or advancing.

If you want to keep your scouts, keep in contact with them. Once a scout is
absent, he does not know what is going on next week, month or year. Its easy
to miss after you miss the first time and the next. Make the scout feel a
part and important to the program. You may retain a scout who would have
fallen through the crack otherwise. But above all else, DELIVER THE PROMISE!
