Just a comment:
We were told at summer camp this year (July 12) that starting next year
they would be requiring Red Cross/Am. Heart Assn. etc certification for the
CPR portion of all Aquatics badges. Our "Red Cards" (see note below) were
no longer acceptable and there were going to be no provisions in camp for
the CPR portion of any merit badge. I do not know if this is a National
policy or just our local policy, however I think it is a GREAT idea. The
Red Cross here has several courses per year and they are FREE. All you have
to do is sign up. When the class is complete they test and certify you.
This is a much more cpmplete way to learn CPR IMHO.
Red Cards:
In our council (Greater St. Louis Area Council) there is a card called
CPR/FIRST AID PROGRESS CARD. You get them from council. You then go to a
certified medical professional (Nurse EMT DR) and have them show you CPR
and 1st aid. We do it at our local firehouse with the EMT. Then EMT signs
the card and it was good enough touse for merit badges and the rank
requirements. (We did the training in place of a normal Troop meeting. Very
minimal training. Just enough to get by.
You were in no way certified.
There is a note on the card:
"This requirement is designed to familiarize you with CPR. It is not a
certification. You are encouraged to become CPR trained and certified when
eligible"
