At the Camp we go to Camp Grizzly one of 3 camps in our Council, Inland
Northwest Council, the councilors keep tracking sheets for all thier
meritbadges to keep track of all the boys and what they've finished.
Friday afternoon they fill out the Blue Cards from those sheets and Friday
evening after the Closing campfire all the Scoutmasters pick them up and
go through them and all the area directors are there to answere any
questions about what was earned and fix any errors. I useually make a
list of all the boys and note what merit badge cards I've signed for them.
Friday after dinner I go over the list with the scouts to see what "they"
think they have finished and compare it with what I get from the blue
cards. The Staff is really great at keeping track of all the scouts and
they pretty much get to know all the boys pretty well and when you ask a
question and somtimes give a little hint about the boy they usually can
remember the boy and can tell you what's going on. (Grizzly has always had
one of the best camp staffs I've ever seen) They keep the tracking sheets
and if you have any questions after you go home you can call camp and they
will check thier records and do everything they can to get it cleared up.
The secret is "trying" to keep track of where your boys "think" they are
and what the staff says they have done. Following the above system has
caused very few problems and none that were not corrected to everyone's
satisfaction in the last 4 years we've gone to this camp.
I also occasionally check my list with the boys during the week to see
what they have changed and how they are comming on their work. Remind
them of bottlenecks like Environmental Science observation and reports
that can't be left to Friday morning.
