Why would singing encourage the scout to pay more attention to keeping
up
with his belongings? If he enjoys singing in front of the group then he
might choose to lose things more often. Only if the scout was
embarrassed
by the singing could this be considered to have the desired effect. If
he
is embarrassed by the singing...

I'll let you draw your own conclusions.
