Tom, I applaud your efforts, you did nothing wrong in asking for money
from the company, but raising big money takes a different approach.
It's not pretty, but any decent fundraiser will tell you that
"People give to people, not to causes"!
Your Scout Executive knows this (otherwise he would not be a SE), and
should have had a person on his social and economic level do the asking.
Prefferably someone that he (the CEO of your company) would dearly like
to impress.
Whether a larger amount was likely, I couldn't say for sure, but that's
the way it's done.
