I agree. We are prepared to take care of our own, if necessary. Yet, we
carried a GPS, a cell phone and a HAM radio on our 140 mile canoe trip
down the Columbia River. The cell phone came in handy when one of the
Venturers told me (10 miles into the trip) that she had pink-eye, and had
had it for two days, and didn't say anything because she wanted to make
sure she was allowed by her parents to go on the trip. We arranged for
the delivery of an appropriate medication, at our lunch stop. She
continued on the trip. Might not have been possible without the cell
phone. The other two items stayed in the dry-bag, handy for use. The GPS
was along to back-up my land-nav skills. Ever try piloting through
unfamiliar islands from the deck of a canoe? Can be done, but it's nice
to have a second opinion.Having said that, I dare you to tell my
Ventureres that they were not "camping."
