Carol,
I have nothing against a Scout who wants to call home. I will also not stop
him if it's what he really wants to do. In my experience Scouts who are
homesick don't always want to call home. My experience also tells me that
calling home is not always the best thing for a Scout who misses Mom. Of
course, I don't have a lot of experience dealing with Scoutsick moms, but I
have a few ideas on how to get through the week:
* First and foremost, keep busy.
* Have fun (that is, make whatever you are doing as much fun as possible).
* DON'T count the days, hours, minutes, seconds, milliseconds, or
nanoseconds until your son returns.
* Get together with other Scoutsick moms and do something fun (that doesn't
involve talking about how much you miss your son).
Now, these are only suggestions, but they are based on years of dealing with
homesick Scouts. The major difference is that your neighbors aren't going to
tease you about your need to call your son.
