Ginny,

The first thing I would do is to check with the troop the boys plan to
join to make sure they will be allowed to wear a patrol patch that isn't
one of the "standard" patches available through your council's Scout
Shop or through Natinal Supply.

If you find that the troop allows the use of "non-standard" patrol
patches, National Supply will produce custom patrol patches but the cost
is rather high. See the latest BSA supply catalog for prices. You
should also be able to obtain "blank" patrol patches at your council's
Scout shop. (By the way, these work great for boys who choose to be in
the 'Generic Patrol') You might be able to get a local person who has a
fancy sewing machine or a business that does embroidry to put a design
on the blank patches for a modest fee.

You may also want to contact Scouts Canada and request a copy of their
supply catalog which has some very unique patrol patches. The e-mail
address is mailto:scoutshop@scouts.ca

If none of these options work out, check out the ads in the back of
Scouting magazine. There are several companies listed that produce
patches, including "stock" patrol patches. Or you can design your own
patch and they will make them. Again, the cost will be higher than if
you purchase a "standard" patch from your council's Scout Shop. By the
way, the company I recommend is Stadri Emblems in Woodstock, N.Y. The
phone # is 800-679-7909 or fax them at 914-679-6649.

YiS,
