HI all,
Neil's point about doing whatever it takes to motivate kids and adults to
recruit is of course a very good one. The German military theorist von
Clauswitz once made the observation that it was really amazing what a
soldier would do for a piece of tin with a bit of colored ribbon attached
to it. Of course, at bottom he was talking about the need everyone has
for "recognition" in one's calling, professiona, avocation, or whatever.
I remember when I served on cub roundtable staff several years ago, how
all the adults who showed up eagerly sought the beads we handed out each
month for participating in various events--show up at roundtable, get a
pair of yellow (or blue) beads. Earn Outstanding Leader designation, get
a gold bead. Show up at a district event, get a red bead. Serve on
staff of said event, get a green bead. Go to a training event, get a tan
bead. Etc.
So, I say that if an adult is motivated to recruit another adult to serve
in some capacity the movement we all love by whether or not he/she can
wear a "recruiter" patch, what the heck, let 'em wear the recruiter
patch!
