Campout ideas for next year...

Charlie Perry (perrce@IQUEST.NET)

Ok, I'm a rookie SM going into his first annual planning meeting. I've
worked up a list of proposed ideas for the PLC's consideration, but I'm
looking for ideas that would be a change. (Some of these ideas *are* new
to my troop, but other new ideas are always welcome. :-) So, I offer this
list of ideas to Scouts-L (since I'm probably not the only one with an
annual planning conference coming up) and ask for any ideas that your own
troops have realy enjoyed.

Oh, and one last thing to consider: We're in Indiana, so without calling
it a High Adventure, things like sea kayaking and mountain hiking are out.
:-)

The List
--------

Backpacking

Canoeing trip

Use climbing tower from Summer Camp (I'm not sure of the red tape I'll run
into, but I'm good friends with my summer camp's tower guy. Hopefully I
can talk him into overseeing the activity)

Pioneering campout (towers, monkey bridges, catapults, etc.)

Wilderness Survival (build shelters, utensiless cooking)

Cooking campout (Dutch oven only?, no stoves?)

Swimming/Snorkeling campout

Classic camp w/ Day Hike

Nature camp out (Nature ID, nature hike, nature challenge)

Cabin campout

Camp out with rifle shooting (I'm also friends with the Shooting Sports
Dircetor at summer camp. It pays to be nice to your summer camp staff. :-)

Astronomy campout (Perseids Meteor shower peeks Aug. 12)

Fishing campout

Service Project campout

First-Aid Campout (First-Aid trail, Emergency drill?)

Orienteering campout (Any ideas on how to pull this off?)

Photography Campout (Give each scout one of those disposable camaras and
see what develops! *buh-dum-ching* :-)

Invite WEBELOS den to join us on an easy overnight

Any other ideas?
