Gather 'round to hear what Mark Arend said at about 17:07 on 12 Jul 98,:

A Mil spec Dacron (TM) is UV resistant to help it from drying out and getting
brittle. It also resists mildew very well. It can be had for about $8 or so for 100 ft
depending on what diameter you want. Try any store that sells climbing gear,
otherwise I can give you some mail-order sources.

Someone might have other ideas, but getting thru the pulley at the top is a
trick. The easiest way I have found is to get a hold of some bailing wire or
dental floss. You sort of lash the two ropes, end of the old and end of the new,
and pull it thru. Being very careful when you get to the pulley. You'll only get
one shot if they pull apart.

Having said all this, the pulley probably could use some service. You might
want to get up there to lube it anyway.

Let me know if you need mailorder sources
